Biography
Yves De Koninck is Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Laval University, Scientific Director of the CERVO Research Center and Director of Research of the Integrated University Health and Social Services Center of the Capitale-National.
His research mainly focuses on persistent pain: these have led to the discovery of new potential drugs, with therapeutic perspectives beyond persistent pain, in particular for epilepsy, drug dependence, certain neurodegenerative diseases or even autism.
He founded and led the QPRN and chaired the Canadian Association for Neuroscience. In 2003, together with researchers from the CERVO Center and COPL, he launched the neurophotonics initiative which aims to stimulate the development of new technologies to revolutionize the study and treatment of neurological and mental diseases.
He received the Jacques-Rousseau Award from Acfas (2013), the Brockhouse Award from Canada (2018) and the Emily Gray Award from the Biophysical Society (2019) for his transdisciplinary efforts. He received the Canadian Pain Society Award (2016), the Award for Education in Neuroscience from the Society for Neuroscience (2020) and the Wilder-Penfield Award (2022) for distinguished career.
