Biography
Gilles Lavigne trained as a dentist from the University of Montreal. After a few years in practice he started a career in pain, bruxism and sleep research. This was supplemented by training in oral medicine at Georgetown University (Washington, USA) and a research internship in neuropharmacology of pain at NIH (Bethesda, USA). He also holds a PhD in trigeminal neurophysiology (University of Toronto). In 2009 he received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Zurich. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2019.
He is currently :
i) Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry and Medicine of the University of Montreal,
ii) Consultant in orofacial pain and sleep disorders at the CHUM stomatology clinic and in a private ENT clinic.
