Biography

Gabrielle Pagé holds a doctorate in clinical psychology. She is a junior 1 scholarship researcher from the Fonds de recherche en santé - Québec and an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Montreal. She practices as a psychologist in the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit at the Montreal General Hospital.
Her research interests include the transition from acute to persistent pain, the biopsychosocial determinants of persistent pain development and maintenance, the impact of physical and mental co-morbidities on the experience and management of pain, the association between experience of stress and pain, as well as care trajectories. Her studies are mainly epidemiological and in real life context.

What advice would you give to someone wishing to pursue a career in pain research?
My main advice would be to build a research career based on interdisciplinary collaboration and meaningful engagement with stakeholders. I have greatly benefited from having developed strong partnerships with researchers from complementary disciplines from the outset, who have become great allies. It's also essential to integrate patient partners as full members of the research team. Their experiential knowledge makes it possible to formulate more relevant questions, interpret results in a nuanced way, and foster the adoption of knowledge. Networking with members of the community - clinicians, policy-makers, and community organizations, ensures that research is grounded in social and clinical realities. By placing collaboration at the heart of our approach, we can generate knowledge that is more useful, more equitable and better adapted to the needs of people living with pain.
