Biography
In the fall of 2023, Emile Abou Chaar, pharmacist and spiritual care practitioner, began a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Université Laval, as part of an international cotutelle agreement with the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), where he is enrolled in the Doctor of Letters in Religious Studies program (Faculty of Theology), under the co-supervision of Prof. Thierry Collaud. His research project, co-supervised by Prof. Aline Hajj at the CHU de Québec Research Centre – Oncology Axis, aims to develop an innovative, intersectoral, and interdisciplinary approach combining pharmaceutical care and spiritual care (the PHARMA-S-SPIR approach). The hypothesis is that this synergy will improve the management of total suffering in patients newly diagnosed with metastatic cancer. Through this project, Emile aims to transform current paradigms of suffering management by creating a true "community of care" capable of providing an early, personalized response tailored to the complex needs of patients and their family caregivers.
