To federate pain research in Quebec, QPRN has established a research infrastructure model based on a number of consortiums. These consortiums are organized based on specific research proprieties themes identified by our members, partners and people living with chronic pain and are designed to drive innovative research focused on the needs of the Quebec ecosystem.
Objective
This multidisciplinary Consortium will focus on pain prevention, as well as the inclusion of populations disproportionately impacted by pain or marginalized by their social identity, both of which we believe are central to sustainable healthcare. The objective is to promote awareness and communication between actors of change for pain prevention through an inclusive approach.
The activities of the Consortium on pain prevention and sustainable health for all are based on the following definition of sustainable health in which it is a ‘global approach that combines the physical and psychological health of people with the environment in which they live. It requires individuals and the community to implement, at all stages of life, various interventions that will enable an optimal state of health for each individual, including vulnerable populations and future generations. Thus, sustainable health aims to develop strategies to promote health, disease prevention and early intervention for health outcomes at lower cost.’

Progress
- January 19, 2024, Mount Sainte-Anne. Launch of the new consortium and large-group discussion meeting that led to a first team project funding. This project is focused on the complex determinants of pain self-management.
- June 14, 2024. Call for projects to start the activities of this consortium. Three research projects were selected and funded and will focus on a variety of themes, such as serious gaming to improve recovery after surgery, the development of a pain education tool and the promotion of experiential knowledge to foster sustainable health.
- November 1st , 2024 Université de Montréal, Montréal. QPRN organized the first in person meeting of this consortium. Discussions focused on under-represented populations in research, and a project was initiated. Funding will be used to survey the literature to identify under-represented populations in pain research.
- October 23 2025, Montréal. Large group in person meeting. Add to calendar.
