Pain in simple words, it's possible! In this video, the basic principles of pain are explained, providing a better understanding of the role, perception and management of pain.
In this episode of Radio Canada’s Curium entitled “Is pain necessary?”, you’ll learn more about the role of pain and the mechanisms that influence it, thanks to some very accessible explanations. Félix-Antoine Tremblay takes us to meet a number of pain specialists who explain the role of pain, its control and its management. Jérôme Côté from the Université de Sherbrooke, a member of Philippe Sarret‘s laboratory, tells us about the role of pain and the factors that influence its perception in humans. Next, a veterinary surgeon will explain how pain is detected in animals that do not express it in the same way, and show us the pharmacological management tools available. Finally, Sylvie Lemay, Professor at the CHU Sainte Justine and member of the QPRN, shows us how her work aims to improve non-pharmacological pain management in children and adolescents during painful procedures using distraction, in particular virtual reality.
