Catherine Mercier awarded Canada Research Chair

Associate members:

The Canada Research Chairs Program (CRCP) stands at the centre of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world's top countries in research and development. It invests approximately $311 million per year to attract and retain a diverse cadre of world-class researchers, to reinforce academic research and training excellence in Canadian postsecondary institutions. This program is a tri-agency initiative of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) (the agencies). It is administered by the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat, which is housed within SSHRC.

Catherine Mercier is a full professor in the Department of Rehabilitation in the Faculty of Medicine at Université Laval, Scientific Director of the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en réadaptation et intégration sociale (CIRRIS) and a member of the QPRN. Pr Mercier has just been awarded a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Sensorimotor Rehabilitation and Pain. Tier 1 Chairs are awarded to outstanding researchers who are recognised by their peers as world leaders in their field. For each Tier 1 Chair, the institution receives $200,000 per year for seven years. The mission of this Chair is to develop a better understanding of the interactions between sensorimotor functions and pain, in particular by targeting the changes that occur in the central nervous system in response to injury, disease or intervention in order to maximise the effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions.

Congratulations!
