Biography
Inspired by the West, Tokiko Hamasaki decided to immigrate from Japan in 1993. After obtaining a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy (2001), she worked as an occupational therapist at CHUM until June 2023, specializing in hand therapy. After completing her master's degree in rehabilitation sciences under the direction of Professors Louise Demers and Johanne Filiatrault (2014) at the Université de Montréal (UdeM), her doctorate under the direction of Professor Manon Choinière (2022) at UdeM and her postdoctorate under the direction of Professor Catherine Briand (2023) at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR). She subsequently became Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at UQTR.
Her research interests include arthritic hand pain, seniors' autonomy, the biopsychosocial approach, patient-partners, 3D printing of orthotics and facilitators/obstacles to the adoption of digital technology. She is affiliated with the CRCHUM, the Réseau provincial de recherche en adaptation-réadaptation, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.
