Biography

Mélanie Morin is a physiotherapist by training, full professor at the School of Rehabilitation, researcher at the Research Center of the Center Hospitalier de l'Université de Sherbrooke and director of the urogynecology research laboratory. Her clinical and research interests focus mainly on perineal and pelvic rehabilitation. She has developed expertise in pelvic floor muscle evaluation by developing and validating several tools including dynamometry, 3D / 4D ultrasound, elastosonography and electromyography.
Her work has helped to better understand the involvement of the pelvic floor muscles in the pathophysiology of various urogynecological conditions including vulvar pain. She has also performed several studies evaluating the effectiveness of innovative therapeutic approaches including laser, transcranial stimulation and manual techniques in women with pelvic pain.

Why did you choose this career?
I chose this career because I want to make a tangible contribution to improving women’s health and quality of life. I am particularly interested in developing new treatments for women living with chronic pelvic pain, birth injuries, and other pelvic floor disorders. These conditions have a significant impact on their daily lives, yet they remain all too often misunderstood, stigmatized, and rarely discussed—which contributes to their underdiagnosis and often inadequate management. I am also motivated by the desire to promote equitable access to quality care for all women. By contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the improvement of clinical practices, I hope to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions in order to provide care that is better tailored to the diversity of their life journeys, experiences, and needs.
