Biography

Maxime Kusik is a PhD student in molecular medicine in Dr. Steve Lacroix's laboratory at the CHU de Québec Research Centre – Université Laval. He is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and is an active member of the network, serving as co-chair of the Quebec Network of Student Researchers on Pain (QNJPI) and organizer of the PAINtalks event. After completing his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and his master’s degree in molecular medicine at Université Laval, he is currently pursuing a doctorate in neuroimmunology, focusing specifically on the neuroinflammatory mechanisms contributing to chronic pain in the context of multiple sclerosis or peripheral nerve injury. His research expertise encompasses the cellular and molecular mechanisms mediated by inflammatory macrophages, as well as the infiltration of myeloid cells into the nervous system. He also studied the role of reactive astrocytes in a spinal cord injury model, and his work was published in the journal Nature Communications, where he is listed as the 4th author (PMID: 36184639).
