Biography
Dr Mark Ware is the Director of the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit (AEPMU) at the McGill University Health Centre, Associate Professor in Family Medicine and Alan Edwards Chair in Clinical Pain at McGill University. He has worked in clinical pain research since 1996 when he was working with patients with sickle cell anemia in Kingston, Jamaica. Following an MSc in Epidemiology at LSHTM, he moved to Montreal in 1999 and worked at the AEPMU until 2018. During this time he established a groundbreaking research program on cannabis for chronic pain and served as an advisor to Health Canada on cannabis related policy issues (including serving as Vice Chair of the Federal Task Force on the Legalization and Regulation of Cannabis in Canada in 2016). From 2018-2022 he served as Chief Medical Officer at Canopy Growth Corporation, responsible for clinical research and pharmacovigilance on medical cannabis.
