Biography
Johanne Higgins is an occupational therapist and completed a doctorate in rehabilitation sciences (McGill) on motor recovery of the upper limb in 2008. She then did a post-doctorate (McGill) on the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation for post-stroke recovery.
Her research projects are directed towards 3 main fronts:
(1) The development of innovative strategies for upper limb rehabilitation such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and new technologies (eg telerehabilitation). She works with several populations (stroke, musculoskeletal, amputees and pain);
(2) The measurement of different phenomena of brain plasticity and the treatment of people after stroke or pain following musculoskeletal disorder with brain stimulation.
(3) She is interested in the development, validation and use of different measures used in clinical rehabilitation and research, including self-reported measures by analytical methods such as the Rasch model.
