Biography

I obtained my PhD at the Institute of Neuroscience in Shanghai under the supervision of Dr. Xu Zhang. I then completed my postdoctoral training in Dr. Yves De Koninck’s lab at the Mental Health Institute in Quebec City, Canada. My research has focused on understanding the physiological sensitivity of primary afferents and uncovering the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying normal and pathological pain. Currently, I am an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at Laval University. My lab employs cutting-edge optical and behavioral approaches to investigate how populations of sensory neurons - including primary afferents and spinal cord neurons - encode various natural stimuli and how these coding mechanisms are altered in pathological conditions such as chronic pain.

What excites you most about your research program or field?
What excites me most about my research program is the opportunity to use advanced optical and behavioral approaches to uncover the fundamental mechanisms underlying pain perception and modulation. Pain is a complex and deeply personal experience that affects millions worldwide, yet our understanding of its neurobiological basis remains incomplete. I am especially driven by the challenge of understanding how pain is encoded in the nervous system under both physiological and pathological conditions. I hope that our discoveries can ultimately lead to more effective treatments for chronic pain patients.
