What part of your job do you enjoy the most?
A career in clinical pain research brings a wealth of achievements and constant desire to push one’s limits. There are plenty of aspects of my work that I find particularly rewarding and motivating. On a personal level, I appreciate the autonomy and creativity in carrying out my projects. The intellectual challenges associated with the complexity of the pain phenomenon, including its bio-psycho-social and interdisciplinary aspects, stimulate the evolution of my growth. On a clinical level, my main motivation is to know that my work can directly improve the quality of life of people with acute pain, and thus prevent the onset of chronic pain. Helping to alleviate suffering and develop effective treatments is the ultimate goal of my research work. In terms of teaching, I like to pass on my passion for science and the development of knowledge by guiding my students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Ultimately, the prospect that my discoveries may have a lasting impact in the healthcare field and will be useful for decades to come is very inspiring.
