Biography
Elizabeth Zimmermann is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences at McGill University. She obtained her PhD in the field of materials science and engineering from the University of California, Berkeley followed by postdoctoral research in the fields of bone biology, clinical imaging, and mechanobiology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (Germany), Ecole Polytechnique and Shriners Hospital for Children-Canada. Elizabeth Zimmermann’s research investigates structure-function relationships in musculoskeletal tissues at the tissue and material levels. Her research interests also include adaptation of bone to abnormal function in children with cerebral palsy, singers and in the periodontium. In each of these cases, pain is an integral factor as pain can inhibit normal function or abnormal function can cause pain.
