Biography

Amy Doucet faces life's challenges with resilience and determination. A chemical engineer by training, veteran and former National Defence employee, she has been living with chronic pain since 2005, which led to her becoming permanently disabled in 2018. Her journey with chronic pain has given her experience of the physical and psychological challenges of this condition, which she aspires to use to make a significant contribution to initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of people facing similar struggles. Her keen interest in lifelong learning and her social commitment led her to become actively involved with the Association Québécoise de la Douleur Chronique (AQDC), where she runs support groups, and more recently with the QPRN.

What is the most common question people ask you about your work, and what is your answer?
For a long time, this question intimidated me. It brought back memories of my disability, of what I had lost. Today, I talk about it with pride! I am a patient partner, and I help give a voice to people living with chronic pain at the very heart of research. At QPRN, I’m proud that behind every number there is a patient. These collaborations enable profoundly human progress. In addition, I lead chronic pain support groups, where I can offer comfort and hope. These two commitments transform my experience into something useful, alive, and meaningful.
