The Future of Persistent Pain Management: What Are the Priorities for Quebec?

Associate members:

The Quebec Consortium on Continuum and Pain Care Trajectories of the QPRN conducted an extensive consultation to assess the progress made under the 2021–2026 Chronic Pain Action Plan and to identify research priorities for the coming years.

With the support of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, a consultative session with consortium members on the continuum and pathways of pain care was held on November 14, 2025, at the Drummondville campus of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, followed by a post-event survey to gather opinions and feedback from the broader community.

Objectives
1) Assess the current status of the 2021–2026 Action Plan, taking a critical look at achievements and unmet objectives, with a particular focus on the contribution of research and recommendations for the next five-year plan
2) Based on these findings, identify priorities regarding care pathways that must be addressed with evidence-based data

Access to services, the involvement of people with lived experience, the improvement of care pathways, and the use of high-quality data are among the issues deemed most important for the coming years.

The results highlight several courses of action to improve access to care, support clinical teams, and better meet the needs of people affected by pain.
