Persistent vulvar pain in breast cancer survivors: summary of potential causes and conservative interventions with Stéphanie Bernard

Vulvar pain is a frequently reported problem following breast cancer, but it remains poorly understood and under-documented. Cancer treatments can trigger various mechanisms that contribute to this pain. These include tissue changes associated with hormonal deficiency, which affect tissue flexibility and moisture levels. sensory changes induced by chemotherapy, which alter the perception of sensations; and alterations in pelvic muscle tissue, which can influence function and pain. This presentation reviews current knowledge on these mechanisms and discusses the implications for rehabilitation. Preliminary results from pilot projects will be presented to illustrate the potential impact of conservative interventions, such as the perineal rehabilitation approach in physiotherapy. New avenues of research will be explored to improve the care and quality of life of breast cancer survivors.

Musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and dysphonia in professional voice users : promoting personalized rehabilitation with Maude Desjardins

Professional voice users, such as teachers and singers, rely on their voices to perform their daily tasks at work. Given their high vocal demands in sometimes difficult conditions, they are among most at risk of developing vocal symptoms including persistent vocal fatigue, laryngeal and paraglaryngeal pain, and reduced vocal quality (dysphonia). These symptoms greatly reduce the quality of life of those affected, causing psychological distress, high absenteeism, and even career changes. Given the variety of symptomatic presentations and numerous contributing factors, personalized voice rehabilitation remains a challenge for speech-language pathologists treating this population. This presentation will provide an overview of the psychosocial, physiological, and environmental factors involved in voice disorders and their chronicity in professional voice users, and will propose avenues for research in these three areas aimed at promoting personalized rehabilitation.
