To federate pain research in Quebec, QPRN has established a research infrastructure model based on a number of consortiums. These consortiums are organized based on specific research proprieties themes identified by our members, partners and people living with chronic pain and are designed to drive innovative research focused on the needs of the Quebec ecosystem.
Objective
The main objective of this multidisciplinary Consortium is to ensure that all the factors involved in the experience of pain are take into account at every aspect of pain research and management. We can place the diversity of the experience (pain spectrum) by considering the environment, the body and the mind for a holistic management.
GOVERNANCE
Each consortium operates on three levels:
i. Consortium Directors: Audrey Grant, researcher at McGill University, Caroline Arbour, researcher at Université de Montréal, Sabrina Paquet, patient partner. The consortium directors are supported by the QPRN scientific committee.
ii. QPRN Scientific Committee
iii. The larger group is composed of student representatives, people from research and clinical backgrounds as well as any other person with expertise relevant to the work. Anyone with an interest in the field of pain is encouraged to participate in the consortium’s meetings and activities. It is also possible to participate in more than one consortium. The trainee representatives are Celina D’Avila Felipe and Frédérique Dupuis.
Progress
- January 19, 2024, Mount Sainte-Anne. Launch of the new consortium and large-group discussion meeting that led to a first team project funding. This project focuses on ecological factors relevant to better chronic pain prevention and management.
- October 30, 2024, McGill University, Montréal. QPRN organized the first in person meeting of this consortium. The team welcomed Mr Patrick Desrosiers, mathematician, to l earn more about the concept of complex networks. Following this meeting, a research project was initiated and funded by QPRN.
- October 24, 2025, Montréal. Large group in-person meeting. Thank you to our two new partners Kyrie Larcher and Catherine Lemyze for their attendance!
