Derek Speirs is a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and a patient partner at the QPRN. A patient partner is a person with lived experience of pain, who is invited to share his or her own experience with researchers or healthcare professionals, for example, with the aim of improving the quality of care and services. Before becoming a patient partner, Derek was an army cook until an incident aboard HMCS Chicoutimi had a profound impact on his life.
