Five stimulation sessions can have positive effects on pain, mood and physical function.
Guillaume Léonard, Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Université de Sherbrooke and member of the QPRN, is interested in transcranial stimulation as a means of managing pain in the elderly. Transcranial magnetic stimulation involves a series of short magnetic pulses directed at the brain with the aim of stimulating nerve cells and ‘blocking the pain message’. Research results from Guillaume Léonard and his research team show that 5 stimulation sessions had positive effects on pain, mood and physical function. One of the participants in the research project describes her experience and the positive effects of transcranial stimulation on her life and the reduction in the use of medication.
