The brain’s role in pain

What is the brain’s role in pain that persists for over three months? How does the individual characteristics of the brain can help personalizing an individual’s treatment for someone who lives with pain? It is what Pascal Tétreault, adjunct professor in the department of anesthesiology of the University of Sherbrooke aims to understand.

The brain is an organ that can be different from a person to another in the way the information is perceived and processed. Some factors such as environmental, psychological, social genetic or other factors will have a different impact on each person and the way they respond to pain treatment.
‘By looking at the different characteristics of the brain, we try to identify those that will respond to the treatment we give them’ Pascal shares with Le Droit newspaper.
