The idea that flat feet represent a risk of developing musculoskeletal pain and disorders is well established. However, this idea is not based on any solid scientific evidence, and that's why Gabriel Moisan would like to change people's minds with the results of his work.
Gabriel Moisan is a researcher in podiatric medicine at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and a member of the QPRN. He is the author of an article in “The conversation” which deals with the persistent idea that flat feet represent a risk of developing musculoskeletal pain and disorders, even though the scientific basis for this idea seems fragile. Gabriel Moisan’s more detailed research has shown that this cause-and-effect link is not scientifically proven. This scientific finding is important in order to limit the effects of the persistent myth of flat-foot problems, which have the effect of tormenting people with flat feet and leading to specific treatment that is not necessary. Gabriel Moisan insists that it is important to know how to distinguish between an anatomical peculiarity and a proven pathology.
Gabrielle Moisan is also a guest on the Parle moi de santé podcast, where he goes into more detail on the subject of flat feet and foot orthotics.
