Adapting virtual psychological care for low back pain

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is the Government of Canada's agency for investing in health research. Composed of 13 Institutes, it works with partners and researchers to support discoveries and innovations that improve the health of Canadians and the Canadian healthcare system.

Junie Carrière and Guillaume Léonard are professors at the Université de Sherbrooke and members of the QPRN. The aim of their study is to adapt a psychological pain intervention delivered virtually to French-speaking primary care physiotherapy workers for low back pain and to examine its preliminary effects on disability outcomes. The French version of “Empowered Relief”, a two-hour, single-session course designed to reduce pain-related distress, will be delivered to French-speaking workers via an internet platform. Empowered Relief offers a complementary, low-impact treatment for physiotherapists who have requested additional support to meet the psychological needs of injured workers with pain symptoms.
