New Research Chair in Pain Management

With the Research Chair in Pain Management and Opioid Pharmacology, Professor Louis Gendron and his team wish to develop new strategies and therapies for the treatment of pain using opioid receptors as pharmacological targets.

The University of Sherbrooke, in collaboration with the CHUS Foundation and the CHUS Research Centre, has announced the creation of a new university-hospital research chair in pain management.
The Chair promotional video shows, through the testimony of veteran Derek Speirs, the desperate need for patients to have access to effective painkillers that do not cause overwhelming side effects or addiction. Opiods such as morphine, which are considered to be effective in treating pain, have side effects but also pose a health risk.

Louis Gendron‘s mission with this research chair is to develop new effective drugs with fewer side effects and less risk of dependence, and to offer alternative treatments to patients. To this end, his research work aims to develop new strategies and therapies for the treatment of pain using delta opioid receptors as pharmacological targets.

This research chair also aims to train the next generation of scientists by offering funding to graduate students.
