Several ministers are jointly announcing the establishment of a service offering aimed at treating people with persistent symptoms of COVID-19, commonly referred to as long COVID.
The Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, as well as the Minister of Justice, Minister responsible for the French Language, Minister responsible for Secularism and Parliamentary Reform, Government House Leader and Minister responsible for the region of Montérégie, Simon Jolin-Barrette, announce a new service offering to treat persistent symptoms of COVID-19 at the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of Montérégie-Ouest.
This front-line service offer, which aims to allow the recovery and optimal rehabilitation of people with this condition, is the result of a partnership between the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of Montérégie-Ouest (CISSS) and a research from the University of Sherbrooke. To offer this service, the CISSS has a multidisciplinary team of professionals made up of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, neuropsychologists and other professionals.
The mission of these professionals is to provide care to people affected by long-term COVID, that is to say the symptoms and sequelae caused by the disease that persist or occur beyond four weeks in infected people. The workers are currently receiving training and are being followed by a research project.
These services will be available to the population of Montérégie-Ouest. Funding of $ 1.3M from the institution’s COVID budget was dedicated to the project (source: Newswire.ca). A long COVID symptom self-management sheet is also available HERE.
