The Next Generation of Pain Researchers

The Quebec Network of Junior Pain Investigators (QNJPI) is the junior network of the Quebec Pain Research Network (QPRN). Since 2006, the network has endeavored to support its members in their needs in order to promote their paths as future researchers.

The Quebec Network of Pain Researchers (QNJPI) brings together more than 175 post-doctoral and graduate students with a higher proportion of doctoral students (45%) according to the report of 2019. The latter are considered regular members and can benefit travel grants of the QPRN, training workshops, conferences (Pain Retreat) or public outreach activities.

The Next Generation of Pain Researchers

Regular members of the QNJPI come from six Quebec universities, with a higher proportion of students coming from McGill University (42%), followed by the University of Laval (18%), the University of Montreal (16%) and the University of Sherbrooke (14%).

In 2018, a greater proportion of QNJPI members pursued their graduate studies in basic sciences, while 2019 observed a diversification in the type of research undertaken: 37% of members were respectively in basic science AND in clinical research (45% vs. 39% in 2018).

The main mission of the QNJPI is knowledge transfer, promoting networking and fostering the creation of scientific collaborations among these student members from various fields of expertise. Thus, the members of the board of directors of the QNJPI strive to offer relevant and interesting activities in order to support them in their education while inspiring new ideas and high-quality scientific conduct. Among them, Alice Wagenaar and Maxime Mireault, research students, are in charge of communication for the QNJPI.
