His research findings suggest that a subset of fibromyalgia-related pain may be mediated by autoantibodies &#8211; antibodies that attack parts of our own body. However, it&#8217;s not clear why these autoantibodies develop. His laboratory is therefore studying how fibromyalgia autoantibodies develop. One possibility is that altering gut bacteria stimulates an antibody-generating immune response, and that if these antibodies recognize molecules sufficiently similar to those found on satellite glial cells, then an autoantibody response could occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emerson Krock has received three grants to further its research from the <a href=\"https:\/\/ritaallen.org\/all-scholars\/emerson-krock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rita Allen Foundation<\/a>, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/reporter.mcgill.ca\/cfi-invests-10m-in-mcgill-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canada Foundation for Innovation<\/a> (CFI)&#8217;s John R.
